Are You a People Pleaser?

Calculating your results...

About This Quiz

This quiz is based on research into the fawn response, a trauma-survival pattern first described by therapist Pete Walker in his work on Complex PTSD. People-pleasing, the compulsive tendency to prioritise others' needs and avoid conflict at all costs, is not simply a personality quirk. For many, it developed as an adaptive survival strategy in childhood environments where conflict felt genuinely threatening.

The fawn response sits alongside fight, flight, and freeze. Where those involve confrontation or withdrawal, fawning involves appeasing, making yourself agreeable and compliant to neutralise perceived threat. Understanding the roots of people-pleasing is the first step to building an authentic relationship with your own needs, feelings, and limits.

Use your results to identify the situations where people-pleasing costs you most, your time, energy, self-respect, or authentic expression. Reducing people-pleasing patterns is possible through self-awareness, assertiveness practice, and boundary work. If your patterns are deeply rooted in trauma, a therapist trained in Complex PTSD can offer meaningful support.
