Attachment Style Quiz

Your attachment style is the emotional blueprint you carry into every close relationship. Shaped early in life, it influences how comfortable you feel with closeness, how you respond when someone pulls away, and what you need to feel safe with another person.

This quiz uses a two-dimensional model drawn from attachment theory research: your scores on the Anxiety and Avoidance dimensions together map to one of four attachment styles.

A note on this quiz: Attachment styles describe recurring patterns in how we relate to others. They are not fixed categories, and they are not diagnoses. Research shows that attachment patterns can shift meaningfully through self-awareness, healthy relationships, and professional support. If your result feels heavy or brings up difficult feelings, speaking with a therapist who works with attachment can be a meaningful next step. This quiz is for self-reflection only.

      About This Quiz

How is this different from other attachment quizzes?

Most attachment quizzes ask you to pick one of four options per question and tally the most frequent answer. This quiz uses a two-dimensional Likert-scale approach: your responses generate a score on both an Anxiety dimension and an Avoidance dimension. The intersection of those two scores determines your attachment style, which is closer to how attachment researchers like Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991) actually conceptualize the four-style model.

      Can my attachment style change?

Yes. Attachment styles are patterns, not permanent traits. People regularly shift toward more secure attachment through sustained, stable relationships, personal growth work, and therapy. Attachment-based therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) both have strong evidence for helping people move toward earned secure attachment. Is this quiz clinically validated?

No. This quiz is designed for educational self-reflection. The two-dimensional model is grounded in established attachment theory research, but the specific items are original and have not been validated in a clinical study.
